Yes, this ^^. You've articulated this so well. Thank you.
I believe food, particularly plants and fungi are our best medicine. They are medicine when we eat the right combinations at the right times, not when we opt-out or narrow our diets. Our ancestors on every continent knew this. But in modernity we have chosen to forget. In the past, humans spent far more time collecting, hunting and later growing our food than we do today. Research shows they had better health and more free time. Go figure.
Absolutely!! If only people knew what it feels like to eat a freshly fruited porcini after an overnight rain sliced and grilled with some olive oil, a squeeze of lemon and salt.
Or a tomato you grew from seed picked from the garden you built on a hot summer morning sliced with some fresh mozzarella you made from the milk of a nearby farm. If only they could taste it. If only they were willing to make some small changes. 🥺
I’m not feeling too optimistic though… most people are working to survive. They barely have time to cook a meal for their family let alone themselves from the food that is available to them in big chain super markets. If you were to train a model to be able to guess a persons socioeconomic status I bet home cooked meals would be weighted pretty high.
Like you say—we need to unlearn modern life.
It’s the only way we get back to living a meaningful truly purposeful healthy life.
This is such an important piece. I’ve always felt like we weren’t made to live in restriction forever. The body can heal once the root is addressed. Do you have any insight into autoimmune conditions such as hashimotos? The majority of the discourse states that a strictly anti inflammatory diet has to be followed for life.
you're going to love my next post on gluten! I will eventually get to hashimotos specifically but I have some very interesting insights to share about gluten and hashimotos + other autoimmune diseases. turns out gluten free might be beneficial for a lot of people (temporarily while healing)
Thank you for putting this into words. Over the years I too have been led astray by elimination diets. I would fail, then feel like a failure while eating some pizza… life is too short to not eat good food with good people! But my health is also #1 priority, and this is something I have slowly been implementing into my body daily i.e. magnesium glycinate, vitamin c, b6, d3, zinc, and a probiotic. More sourdough and sourkraut and kimchi in all of our diets. Seems to be helping loads. Anyways, I have been really enjoying this series!
Thank you for leaving this comment 🥰💗 I’m so glad it resonated with you and SO glad to hear you’ve found your way!! Essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and nutrients from whole foods, fermented foods and high quality meat are the ONLY path to restore health. If 90% of the time we follow that and 10% of the time we eat processed food we would eliminate most diseases. I’m glad you’re feeling good and getting those nutrients in! 🫶🏼
